Innovative content of the project

The technical focus is on developing a mobile welding robot that can operate completely autonomously and does not require external calibration by laser sensors or operating personnel. The use of onboard sensor fusion enables the robot to detect workpieces and positions independently. Another significant innovation is the ability to continue the welding process while the platform is moving. This significantly increases the working space and boosts the efficiency of the overall process.

The project is being implemented by a consortium with clearly defined responsibilities:

The Institute for Mechatronic Systems (IMES) is responsible for optimal path planning and referencing using onboard sensor fusion. The institute is contributing its specific expertise in the areas of sensor fusion and iterative learning control (ILC).

Picum MT GmbH provides the mobile welding robot and supports the development with its expertise in industrial welding processes and hardware development.

With its voraus.core, voraus robotik GmbH enables manufacturer-independent control of the components in real time. In addition, the voraus.pioneer development environment enables the use of the well-known Python programming language and the simulation of the mobile welding robot with a digital twin.

Research partners

The Institute for Mechatronic Systems (IMES) at Leibniz University Hannover and voraus robotik GmbH are serving as research partners.
