Innovative content of the project
Currently, the surface of forming dies is adjusted by manual polishing, which leads to considerable production times. The roller burnishing process offers the possibility of automating this process and thereby increasing the efficiency of post-processing. The research should not only clarify the technical aspects of roller burnishing in relation to free-form surfaces, but also analyze the interactions between the initial surface and the roller burnishing result.
Another focus of the research is to investigate the magnitude and relevance of the influence of geometry on the roller burnishing result. Due to the current gaps in knowledge, the proportion of roller burnishing processes in the machining of free-form surfaces is still low. The Picum MT research project aims to eliminate this deficit and develop clear machining strategies for free-form surfaces. This will not only expand the company-related state of the art, but also contribute to increasing efficiency and improving quality in production.
